Existing Site Conditions
South Valley Middle School went through a full campus replacement in 2023. It consists of permanent structures using pre-engineered modular classroom buildings, an administration complex, a gymnasium, and a multi-purpose facility. Buildings are connected by brightly painted pathways, turf patches, and landscaping that lead to a central quad. Parking and drop-off areas are provided along Murray Avenue and IOOF Avenue, encompassing the campus perimeter and providing access to the track and field. Overall, the campus presents a cohesive and inviting environment with functional outdoor amenities and organized circulation.
Site & Outdoor Areas
The campus includes a variety of outdoor gathering areas with fabric shade structures, turf and mulch landscaping, an outdoor amphitheater, covered lunch area, basketball courts, and seating areas. Curved seat walls provide informal gathering spaces between classroom buildings. The campus features young, growing trees that will provide increasing shade as they mature. The lunch area is covered by an open cell trellis. It would be beneficial to add a fabric material to the trellis to provide additional shade. The gym perimeter parking and drop-off areas are in excellent condition, featuring EV stalls, shade, seating areas, and efficient circulation.
Building H: Main Lobby, Administration, Library
Building H houses, the administration complex, library, multi-purpose room, and room. The main lobby, facing the Murray Avenue drop-off, features a glazed vestibule leading to the administrative lobby, multi-purpose room, and central campus. The administrative area includes a colorful reception, principal’s office, open workspaces, conference rooms, nurse’s office, and support spaces. Storage and office spaces are ample, and interior finishes include carpet flooring with colorful accent walls. The library at the end of the corridor contains a reception desk, conference room, dedicated all-gender restroom, workroom, and bookstore. The library features high ceilings, clerestory windows with afternoon sunlight, suspended light fixtures, acoustic wall panels, perimeter book stacks, and flexible furniture. Overall, Building H’s lobby, administration, and library are in great condition.
Building H: Multi-Purpose
The multi-purpose room is located to the left of the main lobby. It has clerestory windows, storefront views, high slanted ceilings, shaped suspended lighting and acoustic panels. There is a large stage which has plenty of storage space, an accessible lift, and theater curtains. The adjacent music room contains a rehearsal space, practice rooms, instrument storage, and office, finished with carpet flooring and acoustic treatments. Support spaces, including the kitchen, storage, and restrooms. The kitchen features a roll-up service door to connect the server to the multi-purpose room and an outdoor service window to the quad lunch area. Overall, the multi-purpose area is colorful, functional, and in good condition.
Classroom Buildings
Seven classroom buildings surround the central quad, arranged in L-shaped configurations, except Building C, which is linear. Classrooms include standard, science, and makerspace modules. Restroom modules are provided at wing ends, containing staff and single-use restrooms, janitor’s closets, and utility spaces. Standard classrooms feature carpet flooring, colorful walls, and flexible furnishings. Science and makerspaces include sinks, storage, clerestory windows with roller shades, writable and tackable wall panels, and exposed concrete flooring.
Gym
The gym is located adjacent to the track, field, and basketball courts, with a lobby facing IOOF Avenue. The interior features high slanted ceilings, acoustic wall panels, clerestory windows, padded wall protection, and bleachers. Locker rooms are equipped with accessible restrooms, benches, and a mix of five-tier and two-tier lockers. Support spaces include offices, storage, a practice room, and a weight room. The gym is functional and in good condition.
Finishes
Exterior finishes feature colorful stucco facades in beige, green, blue, and red, accented with wood-look paneling. Roofs are standing-seam metal, in great condition. Windows and clerestory glazing provide ample natural light throughout. Interior finishes are durable and well-maintained. Areas requiring attention include basketball court paint and classroom whiteboards.

“I wish there were way more trees on campus. I understand that is a new campus so the trees are new, but the lack of shade makes it difficult to hang out on the school grounds during hot months.”
