Gilroy Unified School District Facilities Master Plan

District Overview

The Gilroy Unified School District (GUSD) serves approximately 10,200 students through a comprehensive pre-kindergarten through adult education system. The District operates two comprehensive high schools, one early college academy, one continuation high school, three middle schools, and seven elementary schools, along with three state preschools and an adult education program. With an annual operating budget of approximately $182 million, GUSD is the largest public-sector organization in the City of Gilroy and plays a central role in the community’s educational, economic, and social life. District schools also function as neighborhood anchors, supporting community identity and partnerships beyond the instructional day.

GUSD’s mission is to ensure equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities that prepare students to become lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and productive members of society. Central to this mission is the District’s commitment to providing safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments that promote student mental health and social-emotional well-being.

The District’s diverse academic and enrichment offerings shape both instructional practices and facility needs. These programs include TK–12 Dual Immersion, specialized academies in computer science, biomedical science, and agricultural science, expanded music and arts programs, Transitional Kindergarten, middle school elective courses, and wellness centers that support student health and success.

The Facilities Master Plan has been developed to guide strategic, long-term investments aligned with the District’s needs, values, and priorities. The Plan focuses on modernizing facilities, enhancing safety and accessibility, and ensuring that school campuses continue to effectively support student learning and evolving community needs.
