Existing Site Conditions

Preschool programs are currently distributed across three sites: Antonio Del Buono (ADB), Glen View, and Rod Kelley State Preschools. The program leadership has expressed a long-term vision to consolidate these programs into a single, comprehensive preschool campus.

A consolidated campus could:

  • Support program integration across all preschool offerings.
  • Improve equity and access, particularly for higher-need communities.
  • Address challenges with special education mainstreaming.
  • Increase operational efficiency and streamline staffing, facilities, and maintenance.

Glen View State Preschool has a capacity of 48 students per session, both morning and afternoon, with current enrollment at 22 students in the morning session. Outdoor areas at this site lack natural shade, and the temporary rented canopies are considered both aesthetically inadequate and functionally limited. A permanent shade solution, such as a solar canopy, is recommended to improve usability and comfort for students during outdoor activities.

Storage is also a concern at Glen View State Preschool. Additional lockable bike and tricycle storage on the playground would provide staff with convenient access to equipment while enhancing organization. Fencing and site security improvements are necessary as well. The existing chain-link fencing should be replaced with black metal fencing to meet district standards, and privacy slats or screening along street-facing fences are recommended to enhance student privacy and overall campus security.

Immediate Needs (0-5 Years)

  • Replace temporary tents with permanent shade structures (e.g., solar canopy).

  • Install lockable bike/tricycle storage shed on playground for staff use.

  • Replace chain-link fencing with district-standard black metal fencing.

  • Add privacy slats or screening along street-facing fences.

Long Term Needs (5-10 Years)

  • Merge Antonio Del Buono, Glen View, and Rod Kelley State Preschools into a single modern preschool campus. Site selection should prioritize proximity to higher-need, low-income families to ensure equitable access. A consolidated campus would enhance:

  • Safety for students and staff.
  • Program equity and inclusion, particularly for special education students.
  • Operational efficiency and staff coordination.
  • Overall facility quality and capacity for future enrollment growth.

Mental Health and Social Emotional Needs

If one improvement could be made to help support student mental health and wellness, what would it be?

“I believe the wellness programs are out in a portable. It would be nice to have it more centrally located and in a permanent room rather than a portable.”

“I would love more activities outside of normal school hours to do. One year Ms. Lazono did a yoga/wellness class and the kids raved about it. Would love that again.”
