Program Vision and Standards
This section updates and aligns the District’s Elementary and Middle School facilities framework to reflect how teaching, learning, and student support function today. It builds upon the Board-adopted 2017 Program Vision & Standards and provides targeted clarifications where expectations have evolved due to changes in instructional practice, student wellness needs, technology use, and program expansion.
The 2026 Program Vision & Standards Supplements do not replace the 2017 document. Instead, they identify specific areas where additional guidance is needed, including the elevation of Transitional Kindergarten, the normalization of student wellness and regulation spaces, expanded use of outdoor learning, and increased emphasis on flexible, inclusive classrooms that support multiple learning modes simultaneously.
Updated Educational Specifications, furniture, and technology guidance establish consistent district-wide expectations that support flexibility, durability, and equity. Furniture is treated as an instructional tool, enabling rapid reconfiguration, reducing clutter, accommodating diverse learners, and integrating power and technology intentionally. Technology planning emphasizes balance —supporting collaboration and creation without over-reliance on screens.
Together, this package aligns facilities planning with the District’s Strategic Vision and LCAP priorities, supporting equity, student well-being, college and career readiness, and long-term stewardship. It will guide Facilities Master Planning, modernization efforts, and future construction by providing a clear, cohesive framework for decision-making.
